Acer AL1714CB-8 17" LCD Monitor
Lately, Acer has been receiving a lot of media attention due to some of their recent OEM products. These releases range from the Altos G5350, which is the world's first AMD dual-core Opteron pedestal server, to the Ferrari 4000, which is an exclusive carbon fiber based notebook. During last year, Acer's LCD monitor market share grew a staggering 87% resulting in them becoming fourth ranked worldwide, placed behind Dell, Samsung, and Hewlett Packard for Q4-2004. Earlier this year, we presented our findings on the Acer AL1715b 17" LCD monitor and today we're back with more of this LCD action as we try out the Acer AL1714CB-8. Although very similar to the AL1715b, the AL1714CB-8 offers very competitive features especially when it comes to its vigorous response time and horizontal viewing angle.

The packaging of the AL1714CB-8 was very similar to that of the AL1715b. The mixture of cardboard, plastic, and Styrofoam led to a very protective combination. Upon examination of the components, we found no signs of apparent damage. Found inside was the actual 17" LCD monitor, LCD base, Acer CD, quick setup guide, warranty pamphlet, power cable, and the analog D-Sub cable. Unlike the AL1715b which has its power supply built onto the rear of the monitor, the AL1714CB-8 uses an external power adapter.
