X.Org Server 1.17 has made it into Ubuntu 15.04.

While Mir will power the Ubuntu Touch devices, X.Org Server 1.17.1 will be used as the default desktop display server for this next Ubuntu Linux release due out in May. Xorg-server 1.17.1 was uploaded to the Ubuntu Vivid archive yesterday to replace the old 1.16 series.

X.Org Server 1.17 was released back in February with integration of the mode-setting DDX driver, improved GLAMOR support, and other changes.

Landing of X.Org Server 1.17 came just days after AMD provided Canonical with an early beta of Catalyst 15.3 to push into the Ubuntu 15.04 release with their current public drivers not supporting the 1.17 series yet. Meanwhile, NVIDIA has supported the xorg-server 1.17 series going back to the pre-releases.

Besides being powered by X.Org Server 1.17, other key components include Mesa 10.5 and the Linux 3.19 kernel for making up Ubuntu 15.04. If you don't want to use Mir or the X.Org Server on the Vivid Vervet, Wayland/Weston 1.7 is available.
