X.Org Foundation Has Become A Khronos Adopter
The X.Org Foundation board announced during this week's XDC2017 summit that they have officially completed the paperwork to become a Khronos adopter.
The X.Org Foundation is now considered a pro-bono adopter for The Khronos Group so that the community-based open-source drivers targeting Khronos APIs for conformance can submit conformance test results and become a certified implementation.
While Intel and AMD are already Khronos members as is Red Hat, Canonical, and others, this will help the more community-focused projects in becoming Khronos certified drivers. The big winner right now of this is the Nouveau open-source NVIDIA driver group in that they can now submit their OpenGL 4.4/4.5 conformance results. This may help other OpenGL projects in the future like Freedreno or VC4 as well as other OpenCL and Vulkan projects in the future.
Thankfully Khronos has already made their conformance test suites public where as previously they were just available to Khronos members. But now with the X.Org Foundation becoming an adopter, it will be easy for open-source groups to submit their results.
X.Org developers wishing to learn more about the new adopter agreement can see this Wiki page for the details.
