Coming up in just two weeks is the X.Org's XDC2016 conference taking place in Helsinki, Finland. Here's a preview of some of the interesting talks.

Among the XDC2016 presentations catching my attention are:

- drm_hwcomposer as a library that implements the Android Hardware Composer interfaces atop DRM/KMS interfaces. This was used by the Google Pixel C with the Tegra DRM but could also be used by other drivers.

- Tizen 3.0 windowing system integration with OpenGL and Vulkan. Sounds like the Tizen folks are doing some fun stuff and certainly working for first-rate Vulkan support.

- ARC++. Yesterday I talked about that with Google using Wayland as part of the Android Runtime on Chrome.

- NVIDIA's Andy Ritger will be providing a libglvnd status update. He's been talking about GLVND for years at XDC while now it's finally all coming together with the NVIDIA binary blob and Mesa supporting GLVND, etc, for making it easier to maintain multiple OpenGL drivers on the same system and other benefits.

- Andy will also be talking about supporting HDR displays on Linux.

- EGL work around Wayland.

- NVIDIA's James Jones will be talking about Unix Device Memory Allocation, including voicing their concerns about GBM. This comes down to the differences they see in their approach to supporting Wayland, etc, with not wanting to support GBM by the NVIDIA binary driver.

- Intel developer Jason Ekstrand will be talking about the anatomy of a Vulkan driver.

- The usual Nouveau driver status update and related to that a separate session just about Nouveau power management.

- Harry Wentland of AMD will be talking about the big DAL display abstraction layer they've been working on but have yet to mainline in the AMDGPU DRM driver.

Those are the ones I found to be of most interest. Unfortunately I won't be attending in person this year due to budget constraints but will be providing remote coverage on Phoronix. Those interested can find the complete schedule on the X.Org Wiki. XDC2016 runs from 21 to 23 September at at Haaga-Helia.
