VirtIO GPU Driver Looks To Be Added To Linux 4.2 Kernel

Back in March I wrote about Red Hat working on a VirtIO GPU DRM/KMS driver. This new DRM kernel driver to benefit their virtualization setups is now looking at being added to the Linux 4.2 kernel.

This new VirtIO DRM driver that amounts to about 3,600 lines of code targets the VirtIO GPU and enables the xf86-video-modesetting to be used with this virtual device. Outside of the kernel work there's QEMU patches for supporting this VirtIO GPU setup.

Gerd Hoffmann of Red Hat sent in the pull request a few minutes ago for adding the VirtIO GPU driver into the DRM-Next tree, which would make it a new driver to be added to the Linux 4.2 kernel. The VirtIO GPU DRM pull request can be viewed here.
