VLC Gains Support For Systemd's Journal
The latest open-source desktop program making optional use of systemd is the popular VLC media player.
As of this morning, there's now a native logger module for the systemd journal within VLC.
If systemd is present this new VLC module makes use of systemd's journal service for logging messages. Systemd's journal daemon provides event logging needs in a controversial binary file format, albeit journald adoption is already quite wide among open-source Linux projects. The VLC module work was done by Rémi Denis-Courmont and landed in Git ahead of VLC 2.3.0.
