A Word of Caution About LLVM/Clang 3.8 SVN On Ubuntu
For those who routinely build LLVM/Clang from SVN/Git or rely upon the LLVM.org APT repository, for at least some platforms the latest code is causing issues.
If you have visited LinuxBenchmarking.com in the past few days, you may have noticed there's no updated LLVM Clang benchmarks in the past three days of the daily 3.8 SVN C/C++ performance.
There's been no tests in three days since all of these Ubuntu 14.04 LTS systems have been stuck "installing" the tests. For reasons yet to be determined, all of these diverse Intel and AMD systems running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS have all become stuck endlessly compiling even the most basic applications for days -- until I end up killing the processes.
Rebooting the systems, applying the LTS system updates, and reinstalling the LLVM.org APT 3.8 SVN packages so far haven't been to any avail on any of the systems. There's been the LinuxBenchmarking.com LLVM/Clang C/C++ performance tracker going on for almost one year now, but this is the first time all of the systems have regressed so badly. Unfortunately I don't have any time available to devote to debugging the situation nor have seen any reports of problems this weekend on the LLVM lists, though am waiting on hearing back from the LLVM.org APT repository maintain to know if there's any new issue specific to the Debian/Ubuntu packages.
More details as they become available.
