Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" Opens For Development
As covered last week, Ubuntu 16.10 is codenamed Yakkety Yak. Ubuntu developer Matthias Klose announced this morning that the Yakkety Yak is now open for development.
At this early stage of Ubuntu 16.10 development, packaging syncing from Debian unstable is taking place. Some of the early changes so far for Ubuntu 16.10 include GCC being configured to build with -fPIE for Position Independent Executables, transitioning to Boost 1.60, transitioning to ICU 57, transitioning to libpng 1.6, and other package updates.
Ubuntu developers plan to switch from GCC 5 to GCC 6.2 as the default base compiler for Ubuntu 16.10 in June or July. More early Ubuntu 16.10 development details can be found via this mailing list post.
