Ubuntu 15.10 Plans Being Discussed Next Week

The Ubuntu Online Summit May 2015 event is taking place from 5 May to 7 May. While there's still some time to go and the schedule is subject to changes/additions, below is a look at some of the more interesting technical discussions to take place next week. A big focus of Ubuntu 15.10 is starting to look at the converged experience when running the same Ubuntu applications across phones, tablets, and the desktop.
Unity 7 is still expected to be the default desktop environment on Ubuntu 15.10 while Mir + Unity 8 will remain in the "Desktop-Next" experience until Ubuntu 16.04 LTS when the converged experience is expected to go into full affect.
- Working out proper themes support for Ubuntu users on devices.
- The Python plans will be discussed... Ubuntu Linux is still working towards only including Python 3 (and not Python 2) on the default install, making all system scripts Python 3 compatible, and other Py3 talk will be had during this session.
- Planning of Ubuntu's new Terminal app.
- Coming up with a roadmap for Ubuntu Scopes this next cycle.
- An update on Ubuntu Linux running on modern POWER8 hardware.
- Benchmarking Ubuntu Clouds. This should be interesting since Canonical's been working on driving their cloud benchmarks via PTS.
- Planning an Ubuntu Weather App.
- Figuring out the grand plans for the Ubuntu Music App.
- Planning the Ubuntu Calendar App.
- Devising the Ubuntu SDK roadmap for the near-term.
- Figuring out more plans for the Ubuntu Calculator App.
- "Getting the UI Toolkit ready for convergence."
Yep, convergence is a big focus for Ubuntu 15.10 along with coming up with (or improving upon) the custom Ubuntu applications currently used for Ubuntu Phone/Touch. Ubuntu's Snappy plans will also surely be discussed in various sessions.
