Intel Haswell Graphics Have A Few Gains With Ubuntu 15.10
A Phoronix Premium subscriber inquired this weekend about whether Intel "Haswell" HD Graphics have any performance gains when going from Ubuntu 15.04 to Ubuntu 15.10, now that Haswell has reached a mature state on Linux and most of the Intel Linux developers are busy with Skylake and Broxton.
I ran some quick tests of Ubuntu 15.04 vs. 15.10 out-of-the-box to show the performance difference between the Linux 3.19 + Mesa 10.5 stack against the upcoming Linux 4.2 + Mesa 11.0 powered distribution. An Intel Core i7 4790K processor with HD Graphics 4600 was used for this weekend's tests.
With the OpenGL tests done by the Phoronix Test Suite, in just a few tests there was a notable difference compared to Ubuntu 15.04. Note that the P-State governor by default also changed for this Devil's Canyon system.
At least though no major Haswell graphics regressions! See all of the results via this OpenBenchmarking.org result file.
