FSF To Look At RYF Certification For The POWER9 Talos II

Last month Raptor Engineering announced the Talos II POWER9-powered workstation that is cheaper than the original Talos Workstation while still aiming to be very free software friendly. The Free Software Foundation will be exploring the possibility of "Respect Your Freedom" certification on this hardware when it's ready to ship.

Among the recent updates on the Talos II passed along from Raptor Engineering:

- The 4-core POWER9 processors that offer 16 threads will have a 90 Watt TDP.

- They are also working on the TL2DS1 development system as a "new, cheaper" box. This desktop development system will support two POWER9 CPUs, 16 x DDR4 ECC RAM slots, 3 x PCI-E 4.0 x16 slots, and more. Pricing starts at $3950 USD but will still end up above $5k once fully loaded. Details on it here.
