Select Ubuntu Versions Are Working To Switch To Systemd's Networkd

Ubuntu developers are working on replacing ifupdown with systemd-networkd for Ubuntu Snappy, Ubuntu Cloud, and Ubuntu Server. The switch is happened to go ahead of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. This change wouldn't affect the Ubuntu desktop or Touch versions.
Networkd is becoming great for handling networking on servers, particularly clouds, and coming out better than the current Ubuntu Server network support. However, as it hasn't reached feature parity on the desktop nor can work with NetworkManager, the change wouldn't happen there for now.
Those wishing to learn more about the systemd networkd plans for Ubuntu can find the session notes from earlier today at the Ubuntu Online Summit.
