Red Hat is beginning to look for feedback and ideas from their enterprise customers about what they would like to see from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, the next major release of their flagship Linux operating system.

Red Hat released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 (codenamed "Santiago") last November, but they're being quick to begin their plans for the major RHEL7 release. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 isn't expected for release until at early 2013, but they're preparing to ensure it will be a magnificent release.

Red Hat issued a press release this morning inviting their RHEL customers to get involved with the RHEL7 development process. From the Red Hat subscriber area they have invited their customers to submit feedback and ideas for what they would like to see incorporated in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Ideas discussion group is an extension to the interactive processes already underway with partners, customers and contributors in the open source community. It provides a venue for sharing thoughts and use cases and is invaluable to Red Hat engineering development groups. Access to the Red Hat Customer Portal, which includes a wealth of Red Hat Enterprise Linux information and knowledge, is provided as an important component of every Red Hat subscription.

Those non-RHEL customers wanting to know what RHEL7 will ultimately be like just need to pay attention to Red Hat's developments in the Fedora land. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 will contain some obvious enhancements like further enriching their virtualization and cloud computing support.

RHEL 7.0 should be shipping with a Linux 3.x kernel, the GNOME 3.x desktop, mainline Xen support via the Dom0 integration in the Linux 3.0+ kernels, the systemd session manager, and GRUB2 are all likely candidates for this next enterprise Linux release.
