Frozenbyte Bundle Already Rakes In $250k USD
The Third Humble Indie Bundle just went live this morning and it's already raked in more than $250,000 USD and around 50,000 sales.
The Humble Indie Bundle #3 continues in the success of the two former bundles that offer up a number of computer games that are DRM-free and multi-platform, but where the Windows / Mac OS X / Linux gamers only pay however much they want. The two previous bundles each pulled in more than a million dollars in sales during their short sale period and it looks like HIB #3 will do the same.
The third bundle is concentrated on games offered by the Frozenbyte game studio. These titles include Trine, Shadowgrounds, Shadowgrounds: Survivor, Jack Claw, and Splot.
For the second Humble Indie Bundle it took four days to gross one million dollars and if the current pace for HIB #3 continues, it should come in within that same time period if not sooner. During the entire HIB #2 period, it pulled in just shy of $2M USD. There's just less than two weeks left for this Frozenbyte bundle.
Key statistics as of right now (though the numbers are constantly rising) include:
- $255,370.32 USD (Total Payments)
- 49,592 Total Sales
- Highest Contribution Price: $1,024.00
- Average Windows Price: $4.18
- Average Mac OS X Price: $6.22
- Average Linux Price: $11.95 (Damn Nice Job Linux Gamers)
Maybe there will eventually be a Unigine bundle... Right now the OilRush pre-orders they have just made over 1,300 sales and that equates to just over $22,000 USD.
In talking with Unigine Corp prior to the pre-ordering process, they hoped their low-cost DRM-free pre-ordering-gets-you-beta would go in a manner like the Humble Indie Bundles in terms of sales. Unigine late last year also did a game development competition to win copies of its very-advanced, multi-platform game engine.
Also exploring unique game sales concepts is Project Bossanova, which was talked about this weekend and seeks to be a community-sponsored open-source MMORPG. It's being built using the Unigine Engine, but the engine itself will not be open nor the game developer's middle-ware.
Those interested in the Humble Indie Bundle #3 can participate at HumbleBundle.com. At Phoronix I'm thinking about running a contest to give away a few copies of the bundle as well, similar to the Unigine OilRush competition.
