GCC 4.6 is set to be released next week barring any last minute problems and there are already release candidates out in the wild. Apple and the other developers working on LLVM and Clang are also targeting to release LLVM 2.9 in early April. The second release candidate of LLVM 2.9, Clang 2.9, and LLVM-GCC 2.9 is now available.

This second release candidate announced over the night is their second phase of Low-Level Virtual Machine 2.9 testing. The LLVM packages can be downloaded here.

This week I started some benchmarks of LLVM 2.9 SVN and the latest Clang compiler along with the LLVM DragonEgg plug-in for GCC 4.5+. Results will come next week looking at the Mesa Gallium3D LLVMpipe driver when using LLVM 2.9, LLVM 2.8, etc. On multiple AMD and Intel systems (no LLVM ARM benchmarks due to lack of hardware) there will be compiler benchmarks of the latest GCC 4.6, LLVM 2.9, Clang, DragonEgg, etc.

The slated release date for LLVM 2.9 is the 3rd of April.

During the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit in San Francisco, Matthew Tippett and I will be speaking during the LLVM & Tools track on 7 April. The topic will be on benchmarking. "Benchmarking & Continuous Testing of LLVM." There's been some improvements underway to OpenBenchmarking.org and Phoromatic that should be interesting.
