Wayland Is Indeed Moving Off Eagle For Mesa
In response to libeagle compilation problems that were brought up on the Wayland mailing list, Kristian Høgsberg (the Wayland mastermind) has said he is working on moving Wayland off of Eagle and onto Mesa EGL. Wayland will also be using EGL in a more standardized way, which is a win for everyone.
Over the past few months, Mesa's EGL support has improved quite a bit particularly with its Gallium3D state tracker. A DRI2 driver for Mesa EGL is also being worked on. The move to Mesa and the mainlining of the KMS page-flipping ioctl in the Linux kernel are lowing the barrier for new developers and end-users to experiment with this promising display server that leverages kernel mode-setting and other new Linux graphics technologies to provide a cutting-edge experience.
