Earlier this month we shared that we would be doing a big operating system benchmark comparison consisting of Linux (perhaps a few different distributions), OpenSolaris, some BSDs, and Mac OS X. With the news today from Apple that Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" will be shipping this Friday, the 28th of August, we are now one step closer to carrying out this large OS comparison. This large OS benchmarking extravaganza will not take place until September, but later this week we will go ahead and put out some performance numbers for Mac OS X 10.6.0.

Assuming the copy of Mac OS X 10.6 that we just pre-ordered does arrive on Friday, we should have some in-depth performance numbers beginning Friday night or Saturday. For this initial article we will be looking at the Mac OS X "Snow Leopard" performance compared to Mac OS X 10.5.8 "Leopard". We have also started preparing for this comparison and getting any last minute tests into the Phoronix Test Suite for running this Mac OS X benchmarking.

Look for plenty of performance numbers to come out in the coming days on Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" at Phoronix, thanks to our multi-platform benchmarking software. From earlier this year you can find our Ubuntu 9.04 vs. Mac OS X 10.5.6 benchmarks along with many other articles.
