Intel Core i7, AMD Phenom II Benchmarks On Linux
If you have been wanting to look at Linux performance numbers for the Intel Core i7 or AMD Phenom II processors, be sure to stop by Phoronix Global. While the PR departments at Intel and AMD seem to have no interest at all in their latest desktop processors on Linux, many users of this new hardware have provided their own benchmarks courtesy of the Phoronix Test Suite.
All of the Phenom II and Core i7 results can be found by searching for them from this page. There is everything from Super PI results to disk tests with the Core i7 and the new Intel X58 Express Chipset. A nice comparison can also be found here.
For those interested in the AMD Phenom II X4 940, there are Linux benchmark results comparing it to Intel Core i7 920 at various compilation, compression, and encryption tasks.
Directly for the AMD Phenom II X4 Linux numbers, there are some for Unigine Tropics, compilation, Nexuiz, etc. There are also a number of entries using overclocked Phenom IIs.
If you are interested in comparing your system to an Intel Core i7 920 CPU with the Phoronix Test Suite, try running phoronix-test-suite benchmark root-26254-5229-26377. There is also a comparison of the Intel Core i7 to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 and Intel Core 2 Duo. Last but not least, there are results from a Core i7 running at 3.6GHz.
These links are just a few of the Intel Core i7 and AMD Phenom II numbers available on Phoronix Global for giving you a Linux look at the newest desktop processors. We will (finally) be delivering Intel Core i7 Linux and OpenSolaris benchmarks next week, after giving up on Intel's PR department having any interest in Linux and being forced to buy a Nehalem processor. On the AMD side, you can at least see our AMD Shanghai Opteron benchmarks with a Linux vs. OpenSolaris comparison.
If you wish to run your own Linux, OpenSolaris, BSD, or Mac OS X benchmarks, be sure to check out the Phoronix Test Suite and to share your results on Phoronix Global.
