Lenovo Rebrands SplashTop As "QuickStart"
Lenovo has announced this morning that they will begin shipping SplashTop-enabled netbooks. Next month Lenovo will be shipping "QuickStart" (just their re-branded version of SplashTop) on their new Atom-powered IdeaPad S10e. The press release can be read on the Market Wire.
SplashTop is an instant-on Linux environment developed by DeviceVM that had launched late last year. In fact, Phoronix was the first place to publish a full in-depth review of this motherboard-embedded Linux, which had launched the company forward: ASUS Motherboard Ships With Embedded Linux, Web Browser. We were also the first to share of SplashTop being hacked to run off USB flash drives and other devices.
Users can be in this desktop Linux environment within ten seconds of booting their PC. Their premiere partner, ASUS, continues to use Express Gate (their re-branded edition of SplashTop) on both motherboards and notebooks (SplashTop Running On A Notebook).
