Gentoo Cancels 2008.1, Plans New Future
There was no Gentoo 2007.1 release that made it out last year, and we now know for sure that there will be no Gentoo 2008.1 release this year. The Gentoo Release Engineering Team has canceled the Gentoo 2008.1 release that would have otherwise been expected in the next three months. Due to spending increased time on Gentoo 2008.0 and having limited manpower, they've decided to call off Gentoo 2008.1 and future .1 releases.
The Gentoo Release Engineering Team is now re-tasking themselves to focus only on a single release per year, if that. In a Gentoo news entry, they state "In future releases, Gentoo will focus on a more back-to-basics approach that will give you up-to-date install media on a regular basis and make much better use of our human resources. We're looking into automated weekly builds of the minimal CDs and stage tarballs as well as maybe an annual LiveCD release. We will keep you updated as we decide on the details of this new approach."
