Yesterday, Epic Games shipped the much-anticipated Unreal Tournament 3 title here in the United States, which is the first release in the Unreal series since 2004. While Epic Games has been a patron to the Linux gaming community, there was no Linux client or server on the launch day here in the US (nor has there been a
UT3 Linux demo, yet). Ryan Gordon (also known as Icculus) has been working on
the Unreal Tournament 3 port to Linux and Mac OS X, and has previously released a
UT3 Linux server beta. Ryan had previously confirmed on the
UT3 Linux mailing list that there would a Linux dedicated server ready and seeded for the German release last week, however, that hasn't yet been pushed out to the public. We (along with many gamers) would hope that the Unreal Tournament 3 dedicated server for Linux is pushed out this week, but right now there is no ETA for the UT3 Linux client. We have the Unreal Tournament 3 media in hand, and once the Linux client is available you can be sure we will be testing it here at Phoronix and running a plethora of benchmarks across different graphics hardware.
