There's less than two weeks now until the release of
Fedora 8, which has been codenamed Werewolf. However, it's not too early to start thinking about Fedora 9. One of the items that has already been brought up for this next release cycle is a new display utility. While there is the rather basic
system-config-display utility from Red Hat, Fedora is currently lacking a graphical tool to change or enable display devices (such as LCDs or TVs) in real-time.
There is a
Red Hat BugZilla report open for this display tool that they hope to tackle for Fedora 9. This will likely use the RandR extension with supported X.Org display drivers, but beyond that we'll just have to wait and see what comes up in Fedora Rawhide in the next couple of months.
