The two firmware binary blobs for the mwlwifi driver (88W8864 and 88W8897) have been added to the linux-firmware Git tree. The mwlwifi driver is used by the WRT1900AC router, the device inspired by the WRT54G.

While the WRT1900AC started off with shoddy open-source support, it's been improving. Their 802.11ac WiFi driver continues to be developed in the form of the "mwlwifi" driver over the past several months, however, as of Linux 4.3 the code has yet to be mainlined.

The mwlwifi driver for the Marvell 88W8864 802.11ac chip until being mainlined can be found via this GitHub repository.

The good news making it one step easier to deploy this Marvell WiFi driver is that the blobs have been added to linux-firmware.git.

If you're interested in the Linksys WRT1900AC router, it's selling for $190 USD on Amazon.

Unrelated to mwlwifi, the Linux-firmware Git tree also added today some new firmware files for new hardware supported by the ath10k WiFi driver.
