Intel Is Still Working On The VED DRM Driver For PowerVR
While it didn't make it for the Linux 3.19 kernel merge window, an Intel developer is still working on the Imagination PowerVR VPU.
Back in October was when the new DRM driver was originally published by an Intel developer for exposing the PowerVR video decoder with VP8 video decoding capabilities. The video decoder from Imagination found in some Intel hardware is the PowerVR VXD392 and it supports H.264 MVC, stereoscopic 3D, and WebM/VP8. This PowerVR VPU is in use by Intel low-power Bay Trail SoCs even though the graphics processor on the Bay Trail SoCs even though the graphics processor is an Intel HD Graphics design.
The IPVR DRM driver is a GEM driver for the "VED" (the PowerVR VPU in select Intel GPUs) and the code in its most recent revision was published on Wednesday along with some updated user-space code. The kernel driver is up to its fourth revision now. Those wanting to patch their kernel to try out this driver can find it on the dri-devel list. Hopefully this new DRM/GEM driver will be ready form erging in the Linux 3.20 kernel.
