Linux Mint 17.1 Release Candidate Out
Announced just minutes ago were the Linux Mint 17.1 "Rebecca" release candidates for the Cinnamon and MATE editions of this popular Ubuntu Linux derived distribution.
Linux Mint 17.1 remains based off Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the Linux 3.13 kernel and will be supported by the Linux Mint team until 2019. The Linux Mint 17.1 release candidate features Cinnamon 2.4 (assuming you're using that spin), update manager improvements, greater kernel selection, UI improvements, and various package updates. While the MATE version offers similar changes with just using the GNOME2-forked desktop instead, a new change to Linux Mint 17.1 MATE is support for Compiz out-of-the-box.
Linux Mint users wishing to learn more can read the 17.1 RC1 Cinnamon announcement and the MATE announcement.
