NVIDIA's Performance Counters Closer To Being Exposed By Nouveau
The work by open-source student developer Samuel Pitoiset taking part again in Google's Summer of Code is continuing to show signs of progress. Pitoiset is the one that's been working towards an open-source version of NVIDIA's NVPerfKit with exposing NVIDIA's performance counters on Linux using the open-source Nouveau driver.
Samuel has made much progress this year and last towards the NVIDIA performance counter work in Nouveau and is now at a stage of designing the interface for exposing the hardware counters to user-space for Mesa. Samuel is currently working on a prototype using software methods for exposing the performance counter information to user-space (Mesa) in a similar manner to NVPerfKit.
There's also nv50_perfmon and a prototype implementation for those interested. More details on the current state of this effort can be found via Samuel's blog.
