Ubuntu Online Development Summit 14.06 Has Concluded

The latest Internet-based Ubuntu Developer Summit ended yesterday. For those not up to speed on your Phoronix reading, here's a recap of the most interesting topics.

This 14.06 Ubuntu Summit wasn't the most interesting (v)UDS, but there was still a few interesting tid-bits for end-users and enthusiasts:

- Ubuntu is bringing Click packages to the desktop. Such support has been desired before and it looks like Click packages will make it to the Ubuntu 14.10 desktop as part of their convergence strategy and to complement Debian packages and APT.

- Systemd for Ubuntu was discussed. I ended up trying systemd on Ubuntu and it worked well though it's not expected to be the default for Ubuntu 14.10.

- A Unity 8 desktop preview daily ISO is available for desktop users wishing to play with the Unity 8 and Mir stack, although neither technology will be the default of Ubuntu 14.10 on the desktop.

- Olli Ries and Rick Spencer had a public Q&A about Unity 8 and Mir.

- Mark Shuttleworth reaffirmed the Mir plans and the understanding there will be "first class" driver support for Mir.

- Ubuntu Server 14.10 will support BCache and other new features.

- Bacon2D was announced as a game engine for Ubuntu Phone/Touch.
