X.Org Server "Strawberry Shortcake" Released
X.Org Server 220.127.116.113 is this new release and its codenamed "Strawberry Shortcake" by Intel's Keith Packard. Keith Packard wrote in the release announcement, "Lots of good fixes here. I think we're essentially ready to close the non-critical bug window at this point."
Keith went on to say there's still some pending patches and he'll likely accept them over the weekend. He's also hoping that the in-server GLAMOR code will work for the Radeon graphics driver, but there's still some work to be done on that front and other areas. "I'll leave it officially open over the weekend to see if we can't scare up some review for a few pending patches that haven't yet been merged. I'm also hoping to see Glamor working well for Radeon and while those could be considered 'critical' at some level, I'd be happy to get those merged soon. And, there are a few pending patches for Present which I haven't merged as they interact with one bug fix that had been pending for a long time and has finally been merged."
X.Org Server 1.16 is expected to be officially released in early July. This major X.Org Server update clears over one thousand compiler warnings, lands in-server GLAMOR support and many GLAMOR-related improvements, works better without root privileges, improves Ultra HD 4K monitor support, and has many other changes.
Last but certainly not least is that X.Org Server 1.16 provides initial XWayland support with a new XWayland design of it coming down to just a new DDX and relying upon GLAMOR to avoid needing any DDX-specific driver modifications.
Stay tuned for more information on X.Org Server 1.16 as its release cycle concludes over the next few weeks.
