Intel Publishes Open-Source "Skylake" Mesa Graphics Driver Support

Earlier this month Intel published initial Skylake Linux graphics support for their DRM kernel driver. Today they have released the Mesa 3D driver support for Skylake, their next-generation architecture coming out by the end of 2015 to succeed Broadwell.

Interestingly it was Kristian Høgsberg who published the Mesa patches for Skylake support. Kristian Høgsberg of Intel who founded the Wayland project and has been the project's leader hasn't been involved with Wayland for some months now. The Wayland/Weston 1.6 release wasn't managed by him, he's no longer active on the Wayland mailing list, and hasn't been publishing any Wayland patches recently. It's not clear if he's just taking a sabbatical from Wayland, he voluntarily decided to quietly stop working on Wayland, or he's been permanently re-tasked by Intel with other work. It seems for the past months he's been working on the Skylake Mesa driver support.

Kristian wrote at the start of the patch series, "Here's a set of 16 patches to bring up mesa on Skylake (GEN 9). This is just initial enabling, there's more work to do. Most patches have been written/reviewed/signed-off by at least two developers and are ready to go."
