Eclipse IDE Starts Firing Up On Wayland's Weston
Joshua Barkovic spent his summer working on porting the Linux build of Eclipse to run on Wayland by working around its X11 dependencies. The Wayland support isn't yet fully complete but it's good enough for this popular open-source IDE to begin running on the Weston reference compositor. The work involved making the SWT tool-kit Wayland-friendly, which doesn't appear too bad given that it uses GDK/GTK and Cairo, which were already ported over to Wayland.
Those wishing to learn more about running Eclipse on Wayland can read this blog post written by the GSoC developer, which was penned last month but only pointed out to us this week by a Phoronix reader.
