Fedora 21 Was Just Delayed By Another Week
Fedora 21 won't even see its alpha release until September now, it's been delayed by a month compared to when it originally shipped, and there's no guarantee that this is even the last delay to be seen by this long-awaited release.
We haven't seen a Fedora Linux release yet in 2014 and now we won't see one until at least the middle of November. A few weeks ago, Fedora 21 was delayed by three weeks to allow developers additional time to finish up the features and changes they hoped to get in this first "Fedora.Next" release. A one week delay was ruled today by the Fedora Engineering & Steering Committee to allow time to do a large package rebuild.
This mass package rebuild is warranted due to upstream glibc reverting an ABI change made with their glibc 2.19 release. Additionally, due to bugs with GCC 4.9 emitting potentially bad code as recently ranted about by Linus Torvalds, they want to recompile all F21 packages with the fixed compiler.
Confirmation of the delay in the Fedora 21 cycle was confirmed on the mailing list. The Fedora 21 "alpha change deadline" is now next week, the Fedora 21 Alpha is pushed back to the beginning of September (2 September), the beta release is now around 7 October, and the final release of Fedora 21 is slated for 11 November. Of course, it's very well possible that Fedora 21 could be delayed further with delays having become very popular in the project.
