LINUX KERNEL
Linus Torvalds has went ahead and done his usual weekly release candidate update to the latest in-development Linux kernel.

The Linux 3.16-rc6 kernel is now available as of a few minutes ago. While the official release announcement has yet to be issued, over the past week were the normal assortment of bug/regression fixes, at least what caught my activity in constantly monitoring the Git flow.

With Linux 3.16-rc6, the codename remains the "Shuffling Zombie Juror", which has been the same since Linux 3.14.

At Phoronix we continue with our Linux 3.16 kernel benchmarks. I'm still in the process of setting up my new office as explained recently, but that will hopefully be up to high-speed soon enough for delivering our usual Linux benchmarks.

Update: Linus has now posted the official release announcement. In it, Linus isn't too happy about the recent changes, "Week by week, we're getting to what is supposed to be the last rc's, but quite frankly, things aren't calming down the way they are supposed to."
