AMD Releases A New Catalyst 14.6 Beta For Linux
Those dependent upon AMD's Linux binary blob can rejoice that today there's an updated driver available after a rather quiet June for Catalyst Linux development.
Out now is a AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta that offers up a couple more improvements to their graphics driver. This latest Catalyst 14.6 revision features official Ubuntu 14.04 support, installation improvements, and fixes a number of Linux driver issues. Among the fixed issues include problems with the Witcher 2 game, screen corruption on some PowerXpress systems, X and OpenGL issues, and a system hang when resuming from S3/S4 on some PowerXpress issues. There's also a fix finally for segmentation faults with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
More details on this latest AMD Catalyst Linux driver beta can be found via AMD.com. Fresh AMD Catalyst benchmarks against the open-source drivers can be found soon on Phoronix while for now you can see last month's 60+ graphics card comparison and the 35-way proprietary driver comparison.
