Debian Installer Jessie Alpha 1 Released
Today's been a very exciting open-source Linux news day and there's still a lot more to share. The latest surprising news today is the availability of the first alpha installer release for Debian 8.0 Jessie.
Showing up on the Internet today is the alpha one installer for "Jessie", a.k.a. Debian 8.0. This first debian-installer release installs Xfce as the default desktop environment, uses the Linux 3.13 kernel in place of Linux 3.2 from Squeeze, the Debian GNU/kFreeBSD installer is now using the FreeeBSD 9.2 kernel, and there's a host of package updates.
The Debian installer is available in 75 languages though only twelve of the languages have full translations. On the CPU front, support for IA64 has been removed from the Debian archive and is no longer supported. For S390, the S390X architecture has replaced it within the Debian world.
More details on the Debian Jessie Installer Alpha 1 can be found via the official release announcement at Debian.org.
