NetworkManager Now Supports VxLAN

Upstream NetworkManager now has support for the Virtual Extensible LAN.

With this 800+ line code drop today by Red Hat's Dan Winship, VxLAN support has been added to NetworkManager. The Virtual Extensible LAN is a network virtualization technology used commonly within the enterprise, especially for cloud computing setups.

Those unfamiliar with VxLAN can find information on it within this VMware blog post.

Supporting VxLAN within NetworkManager can be followed by this Red Hat bug report but this open-source network management component came to supporting it now that the upstream Linux kernel has IPv6 VxLAN support. VxLAN IPv6 support was added to the Linux 3.11 kernel. There's also this related commit to NetworkManager for supporting this enterprise-oriented network virtualization feature.
