Besides announcing two partners shipping Ubuntu phones in 2014, Mark Shuttleworth's comments around the app ecosystem were also interesting.

Mark said in his phone call this morning that he's pleased with Ubuntu's app ecosystem along with its HTML5-based platform for phones/tablets but one of their main focuses is to grow the ecosystem.

By the time there's Ubuntu phones on the market, Mark hopes to see the "top 50" apps from the Android and iOS stores available for Ubuntu on mobile. With the "top 50" list changing month-to-month, it might be hard to meet, but we'll see how interested developers are in Ubuntu for mobile once we have a better idea for the phones, etc.
