Freedreno Gallium3D Now Supports OpenGL 2.0

The Freedreno Gallium3D driver now is able to officially advertise OpenGL 2.0 support after the latest work on this open-source, reverse-engineered driver for Qualcomm Adreno graphics processors.

Rob Clark, the lead developer behind the Freedreno graphics driver project, landed occlusion query support (hardware queries) and other changes on Tuesday that allow OpenGL 2.0 support to be officially advertised. This is the full, desktop OpenGL 2.0 specification while Freedreno Gallium3D has already supported OpenGL ES 2.0 for some time.

Next on Rob's agenda is to figure out sRGB support for the reverse-engineered Gallium3D driver, which will then lead to OpenGL 2.1 compliance. Following that milestone, there's a lot of work for this unofficial Qualcomm ARM graphics driver to work on OpenGL 3.0 / OpenGL ES 3.0 support.

More details on Tuesday's GL2.0 Freedreno milestone can be found from Rob Clark's cheerful blog post. These improvements will be part of the Mesa 10.3, not the upcoming Mesa 10.2 release due to that code having already been branched from master.
