New X.Org Being Added To Rawhide For Fedora 21
For users of Fedora "Rawhide", the latest X.Org code is soon to land well in time for Fedora 21.
Hans de Goede is preparing to land a development snapshot of X.Org Server 1.16 along with the updated X.Org drivers. These Rawhide packages put together Hans' work for the past several months on running the X.Org Server without root privileges for most open-source driver configurations.
While the xorg-server and latest DDX now support not running with root rights, it's still being done anyhow by default. Most display managers aren't yet ready for supporting the X.Org Server running as a user. Hans shared the re-based X.Org for Fedora Rawhide via this mailing list announcement.
X.Org Server 1.16 is expected to be officially released in July and besides running without root rights, it also has GLAMOR acceleration integrated into the server and initial XWayland support. Fedora 21 meanwhile is to be released around late October or November.
