Accretion is a file browser written in QML for the modern Linux desktop that's written against Qt 5.2 and KDE Frameworks 5.

Phoronix reader Mark Gaiser (markg85) has announced his work to the world on Accretion. The open-source Accretion is a file browser written against next-generation technologies like KDE Frameworks 5 and the upcoming Qt 5.2 release.

Accretion is a somewhat simple web browser right now and was inspired by Dolphin, KDE's current default file browser. Mark says his reasoning for developing this new file browser over porting Dolphin to QML is that it's "too big to rewrite or to adjust to make a QML frontend. The fact that dolphin has it’s own model/view implementation also makes it near impossible to port dolphin to QML at all."

While Accretion is looking towards future technologies, Mark says this isn't yet set to replace Dolphin. "Before anyone starts to get any ideas for this as a dolphin replacement. That won’t happen or at least not anytime soon. There is a ton of stuff to add to this before it even becomes usable." Among future work for Accretion includes right mouse button support, settings, bookmarks, and more.

More details on Accretion can be found via the blog announcement.
