Mesa Is Now At Version 10.2.0-devel
Mesa 10.1 was recently branched from Git master ahead of the next major Mesa 3D release in a few weeks time and so now master has been marked as Mesa 10.2.0-devel.
Mesa 10.1 is the next release as opposed to Mesa 11.0 since the major OpenGL version number wasn't bumped for core Mesa. Mesa 10.1 will bring RadeonSI OpenGL 3.3 and other improvements but the core Mesa OpenGL version remains unchanged.
Overview articles and benchmarks in the coming weeks will go over all of the new features to this next Mesa release for those that haven't already read our dozens of articles on this Mesa development version that we have already been writing about at length and carrying out OpenGL performance tests on for some time with the different 3D graphics drivers.
Meanwhile in looking forward to Mesa 10.2-devel (or what could be Mesa 11.0 if OpenGL 4.0 compliance is reached) is already OpenGL compute shaders, among other work and much more items to land in the weeks ahead -- including hopefully the new open-source AMD VCE video code and OpenMAX state tracker. The R600g OpenGL 3.3 already ended up getting back-ported for Mesa 10.1.
Mesa is still living on a three month release cycle since late last year so the Mesa 10.1 release will likely happen around late February or early March (if issues crop up) while Mesa 10.2 is then in the May time-frame.
