After last week having an update on the current init system debate within Debian -- largely between systemd and Upstart -- and a major music company coming out in favor of systemd, the init system for Debian Jessie may now be taken to a vote.

Debian technical committee member Bdale Garbee has called for a vote on what should be the init system used by Debian Jessie, the next release. The proposed voting is a first-step to a longer-term solution: it isn't voting about what Debian should switch to for the foreseeable future but what will they commit to for the next release.

Bdale is calling for technical committee members to vote between systemd, Upstart, OpenRC, SysVInit, and "requires further discussion" as the default Linux init system for Jessie. More details can be found on the debian-ctte mailing list.
