GNOME Shell Lands App Folders System

Updates to GNOME Shell and Mutter have been released for this week's GNOME 3.11.4 development build in the road to GNOME 3.12.

Changes that landed in yesterday's GNOME Shell 3.11.4 release include allow session mode to be specified in the environment, special-case launching of terminals, always showing arrows if the app switcher is scrollable, a new app folders system, and many bug-fixes / clean-ups.

The new app folders system removes their last use of gnome-menus in GNOME Shell and now provides support for GNOME settings-based folders.

All the GNOME Shell 3.11.4 changes are covered with its version bumping commit.

Mutter 3.11.4 was outted yesterday as GNOME's window manager. Mutter 3.11.4 changes include reduced server grabs, not leaving focus on windows that are being unmanaged, improved heuristic for determining display output names, and various bug-fixes.

Released also this week for GNOME 3.11.4 was the new gedit text editor with its overhauled GUI. There's also client-side decoration improvements in GTK. One of the major themes for GNOME 3.12 over this six month development cycle are Wayland support improvements.
