Linux 3.13-rc7 Kernel Is A Light Release
The Linux 3.13-rc7 kernel was released this weekend and development activity is quickly settling down, but there will still be at least a 3.13-rc8 next week before declaring the final version of this big kernel update.
As mentioned earlier on Phoronix, development of the Linux 3.13 kernel is taking some time and is intentionally being dragged out to work around the Linux.Conf.Au conference next week. There's expected to be 3.13-rc8 next weekend and then ideally in the following week we will see the final release.
Linus noted in this weekend's release announcement that development work has settled down and if it were not for his travels 3.13-rc7 would likely be the last development build. Changes in this week's release candidate is just the usual bug-fixes and churn throughout the drivers, file-systems, and architecture areas.
For Phoronix readers one of the patches worth mentioning in this new RC is the big RadeonSI performance improvement patch.
Overall the Linux 3.13 kernel brings many new features and should be a great release when it debuts in mid-January.
