Apple's OS X Launchd Being Ported To FreeBSD

There is new work within the FreeBSD camp to port Apple's launchd from OS X to non-Darwin systems.

Phoronix readers brought up a new project called openlaunchd, the FreeBSD port of Apple's launchd.

Going back to the FreeBSD 6 days, there's been a desire to have launchd on FreeBSD for better boot-up times and jobs management. There was some work on a FreeBSD port around 2008 after Launchd went under an Apache 2.0 license, but not much since then and nothing was ever mainlined. Going back further was also an unsuccessful Google Summer of Code 2005 project about Launchd for FreeBSD. Now as of last week, there's the new OpenLaunchD project.
