With the upcoming Fedora 20 Beta, after I ran new Wayland GNOME Shell benchmarks I proceeded to run some initial tests comparing the performance with the latest Fedora 20 packages as of yesterday to Ubuntu 13.10.

These are just some quick and dirty benchmarks today as Fedora 20 is still under development and at this state they ship by default with some debug options that have the potential of influencing the system's performance. As a result, take the data today as you wish and we'll be back with more Fedora 20 benchmarks when it's officially released.

All benchmarking between Fedora 20 20131028 and Ubuntu 13.10 x86_64 happened from an Intel "Haswell" Core i3 system. All of this Linux distribution benchmarking was conducted in a fully automated manner using the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org.

These benchmark results and more system details are available via 1310290-SO-FEDORAUBU35. Embedded below is just an overview of the results.

Fedora 20 was ahead of Ubuntu GNOME 3.10 for the disk performance in some of the benchmarks.

The Intel OpenGL performance results mixed from being no major difference in performance to leaning in favour of one of the Linux distributions depending upon workload.
