AMD Announces The Radeon R9 290X

AMD announced today the Radeon R9 290X graphics card as their new ultra high-end product.

The Radeon R9 290X is based upon AMD's Hawaii GPU from the Volcanic Islands line to compete with NVIDIA's GTX TITAN. The Radeon R9 290X has 11 compute units, 44 SMIDs, 2816 Stream processors, 44 ROPs, 4GB of RAM, dual DVI ports plus HDMI and DisplayPort, and will sell for around $600 USD.

AMD is announcing more Hawaii details today at their press event so stay tuned for further details. Hardware is expected in October and soon as we're able to get our hands on some review samples we'll surely be out with the first open/closed-source Linux benchmarks of the new AMD Radeon graphics hardware.
