Ubuntu SDK Looks Towards Qt Creator

Another item discussed on the first day of the virtual Ubuntu Developer Summit is about the roadmap for the Ubuntu SDK.

Perhaps most interesting from the hour-long session for the broad community was what they're looking at for their main tool to the Ubuntu SDK: Qt Creator. Ubuntu developers are looking at the open-source cross-platform Qt Creator, which is also part of the Qt SDK, as the integrated development environment for the Ubuntu SDK.

The Ubuntu developers say that "Qt Creator [is] the number one tool in hand" for this in-development SDK. Ubuntu developers say they will be extending Qt Creator via plug-ins to make it apt for the range of Ubuntu devices. Among the talked about plug-ins is support for seeing Launchpad bugs, other Launchpad integration, and document integration.

At the moment the developers are just talking about extending Qt Creator with plug-ins but not forking the project nor Canonical creating their own programming IDE, but we'll see if things change.
