Unvanquished Alpha 13 Celebrates One Year Anniversary
The Unvanquished open-source first person shooter game -- one of the few free software titles that actually sport decent quality graphics and art assets -- is celebrating the one year anniversary of its first release.
I began writing about this open-source game in July of last year when seeing it was a very promising open-source game and it looking amazing for being open-source, at a time when most open-source games look awful. The game sports a modern OpenGL 3.x renderer and other advanced features compared to most open-source shooters still looking in a GL 2.1 era.
Unvanquished has been releasing alpha updates monthly and so in celebration of one year since Alpha 1, they released Alpha 13 on Friday. While they're already up to 13 Alphas, they don't expect to be in beta until January of 2014. It might not be until 2015 when the game is officially deemed ready for an official release.
Regardless, what's found in Unvanquished Alpha 13 there's improvements to the "Parpax" and "Plat23" maps, updates to the base texture for the human model, bot improvements, more console work, and translation updates.
