AMD Radeon KMS Still Being Ported To FreeBSD
It's been a while since last talking about the project to bring the Linux driver for AMD Radeon KMS to FreeBSD. The project is still going forth for expanding FreeBSD kernel mode-setting, but there hasn't been too much progress as of late.
Evidently the developer being paid by the FreeBSD Foundation to port the Radeon KMS code to the FreeBSD kernel has been short on time for about the past month, so there hasn't been a tremendous amount of progress as of late.
Since last month, there's now updated Mesa code with the FreeBSD patches applied on top, which may be a candidate soon for merging into upstream Mesa. The latest Radeon KMS FreeBSD update was then last week where Alexander Kabaev pushed updated TTM memory management code that was back-ported from Linux and some patches to fix bugs in the ported Radeon kernel driver code. The active target of the developer is now to look at OpenGL application locking issues with the driver.
More details on the latest work -- or locations for trying out the ported code -- can be found on the AMD GPU FreeBSD Wiki page. Hopefully this AMD code will end up being ready for FreeBSD 10 to join the Intel KMS driver that's already mainline in FreeBSD 9.1.
