FreeBSD 9.1 Planned For Release At Month's End

A third release candidate of FreeBSD 9.1 had to be scheduled thereby pushing back the final release of this next FreeBSD release to the end of October.

FreeBSD 9.1 RC2 was released today and while announcing this second release candidate, Ken Smith shared that a third RC has been deemed necessary. The new plan is to release FreeBSD 9.1 RC3 in one week followed by doing the final release build about one week later.

The FreeBSD 9.1 schedule has been updated to reflect a new RELEASE announcement on the 29th of October, if all goes according to plan. FreeBSD 9.1 RC1 was released at the end of August, more than one month behind schedule.

It was also decided to export the 9.1 release branch to CVS, although it was decided that FreeBSD 10 will definitely not be exported to CVS and future 8.x and 9.x release exporting is still to be decided.

DragonFlyBSD 3.2 meanwhile is expected to release one week prior to FreeBSD 9.1 on the 22nd of October.
